CACC WOMEN'S TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD FINAL STANDINGS RELEASED

New Haven, Conn. (5/26/17)  The Nyack College Department of Athletics on Friday was awarded the 2016-17 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Team Sportsmanship Award for women's sports, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara.

Nyack was identified as the winner by the total number of sportsmanship votes the institution received over the course of the academic year in women's sports, divided by the total number of female sports sponsored.

Dominican College finished 13th in the standings.

The Warriors captured the CACC Women's Sportsmanship Award for the 11th-consecutive year dating back to when the honor was first handed out during the 2006-07 campaign. Nyack posted a score of 14.86 to win the women's award, while Felician University followed in second place with a mark of 13.57 and University of the Sciences rounded out the top three with a score of 13.00.

Five of Nyack's seven women's teams finished among the top three in the voting for their respective sport's CACC Sportsmanship Award, including softball winning their sportsmanship honor. Women's cross country, volleyball and women's basketball finished second in their respective votes, while women's lacrosse placed third in its voting.

Each sport's team sportsmanship award is voted on by the league's head coaches in their respective sport. Head coaches speak with their student-athletes prior to voting to gain feedback on which opposing teams demonstrated outstanding class and character throughout the season.

Felician's high finish in the overall women's team sportsmanship award was aided by a pair of first-place finishes in the voting for both volleyball and women's lacrosse. USciences placed third in the overall standings after its women's basketball and softball teams placed second in their individual votes during the season.
