Philadelphia, PA (3/25/06) The Dominican College baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the University of the Sciences In Philadelphia, 4-2 and 14-1 this afternoon.
The Chargers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by a double by catcher Peter Gilardo (Cornwall, NY). USP added a run in the bottom stanza, but DC got it back in the third, en route to the 4-2 victory.
Shortstop Jose Made (Binghamton, NY) went 2-4 in the game with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Sophomore Joe Kubanik (Stony Point, NY) went 2-3 with an RBI, while Tom Keegan (Dickson City, PA) also went 2-3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
Junior Matt Dilgen (Staten Island, NY) got the complete game win, scattering five hits, four strikeouts and two runs.
In the nightcap, Dominican once again took the lead early, scoring two runs in the first and exploding for four runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Kubanik went 2-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the game. Centerfielder Eliezer Nunez (Brooklyn, NY) also went 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Made finished the game going 2-5 with two runs scored and a triple. Keegan added two hits, a stolen base and four runs scored in the win.
Starter Joseph Catanese (Huntington, NY) got the complete game win, allowing only three hits and striking out five Devils.
The Chargers wrap up the three game series tomorrow afternoon at 3pm at Veteran's Memorial Park.
