St. Thomas Aquinas College Defeats Dominican Chargers, 4-0

Blauvelt, NY (4/6/06) The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team defeated the Dominican College Chargers, 4-0 this afternoon in a non-conference baseball game at Veteran's Memorial Park. The loss drops the Chargers to 19-11 on the year.
Both teams were held scoreless through four innings, when the Spartans capitalized on three Dominican errors to take a 4-0 lead in the fifth inning. With one out, Ryan Pollaco and Frank Bainer hit back to back singles to put runners on first and second. Kevin Sharpe got on base on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on an error by the Charger third basemen, which allowed Pollaco to score. Chris Hayes followed with an RBI single to right to bring home Bainer as the Spartans took a 2-0 lead. Jason Pominski ground out to the first basemen, but as DC attempted to get the out at second the ball hit the runner in the back and allowed Sharpe to come in to score. John Muller's RBI single brought in Hayes to give St. Thomas Aquinas a 4-0 lead.
Spartan pitcher Anthony Marcangelo got the complete game win, scattering just three hits and striking out four Chargers in the win, while Dominican starter Armando Tavarez (Bronx, NY) suffered the loss, dropping his record to 3-2 on the year.
Charger left fielder Mike Zani (Goshen, NY) went 2-3 in the game, while third baseman Tom Keegan (Dickson City, PA) went 1-3 in the loss.
The Chargers are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game slated to begin at 3:30 pm at Veteran's Memorial Park.
