Dominican Baseball Sweeps Nyack College in CACC Double-Header

The first game was held scoreless until the top of the fourth when DC struck for two runs after Mike Zani (Goshen, NY) led off the inning with a double and came in to score on the back-to-back double by Jose Made (Binghamton, NY). Jose Escalera (Bronx, NY) delievered a one out RBI single to score Made as the Chargers tooka 2-0 lead.
Daniel Bucci (Dobbs Ferry, NY) improved to 6-1 on the year with the complete game winning, scattering three hits and four strikeouts.
In the night cap, Dominican struck for two runs in the second inning as Peter Gilardo (Cornwall, NY) got a lead off walk, stole second and scored on the RBI single by Escalera. He later came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Keith Gebert (Brooklyn, NY).
Nyack answered back in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 2-2 and went ahead after scoring a run in the third, but DC rallied to score three runs in the sixth to go up 5-3. Made led off the inning, reaching base on a Nyack error. Eliezer Nunez (Brooklyn, NY) singled to put two runners on base. Keegan came through again, this time with a two out, two run RBI triple. Ed Dolan (Cliffside Park, NJ) followed with an RBI single for the final run of the inning.
The Warriors scored two in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 5-5, but Dominican pulled out the 7-5 victory with two runs in the bottom of the seventh as Gebert led off with a single. Zani followed with a walk and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Gebert eventually scored on another wild pitch and Zani came in on the sac fly by Gilardo.
Charger starter Armando Tavarez (Bronx, NY) pitched five innings, allowing seven hits and four runs. Reliever Michael Mondesir (Jamaica, NY) picked up the win, going two innings and allowing two hits to improve to 3-2 on the year.
With the wins, Dominican improves to 33-12 overall and a league leading 20-2 in the CACC.
The team is back in action on Friday when they host Caldwell College at 3:30pm.
