C.W. Post Defeats Chargers Baseball, 8-3

Yaphank, NY (3/22/07) The C.W. Post baseball team defeated the Dominican College Charges 8-3 in a non-conference game at Baseball Heaven this afternoon.

Yaphank, NY (3/22/07) The C.W. Post baseball team defeated the Dominican College Charges 8-3 in a non-conference game at Baseball Heaven this afternoon.

C.W. Post got on the board in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead, but DC cut the lead to 4-2 in the sixth. The Pioneers added four runs in the top of the seventh en route to the 8-3 victory.

Pioneer pitcher Jamie Garland had a no hitter going until Willie Mann (Patterson, NY) led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a clean, first-pitch single to center field. Mann then stole second base on a strikeout, and came home on an RBI double by Jose Made (Binghamton, NY). After an infield out, Mann came home on a balk.

Peter Gilardo (Cornwall, NY) had the Chargers other hit with an RBI double in the seventh.

Charger starter Joseph Catanese (Huntington, NY) went five innings, allowing nine hits four runs and striking out three in the loss.

With the loss, the Chargers are now 4-6 on the season, while C.W. Post improves to 8-5.
