Blauvelt, NY (3/29/07) The Dominican College baseball team defeated host Adelphi University, 7-5 this afternoon in Garden City, NY. With the win the Chargers improve to 6-6, while the Panthers fall to 11-6 overall.
The Chargers to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on an Ed Dolan (Cliffside, Park, NJ) home run and then tacked on six more runs in the top of the third to take a commanding 7-0 lead. In the third Dominican scored their six runs on five hits, including a two-run bunt.
The Panthers got four runs back in the bottom of the third on a Ryan Boelsen double and singles from Bill Melillo and Ralph Tropiano. Adelphi scored a fifth run in the bottom of the fifth, but could not get any closer, falling 7-5.
Adelphi was led by Boelsen, going 2-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while Mike Testani was 2-4 and a run scored.
Dominican was led by Jose Made (Binghamton, NY), the 2006 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Year, going 2-4 with an RBI and one run scored. Ed Dolan went 1-2 with an RBI, a run scored and two walks.
Matt Dilgen (Staten Island, NY) earned the win, allowing three runs and nine hits in six innings, while Brendan Bohan (Rutherford, NJ) got the save.
The Chargers are back in action on Friday when they take on St. Thomas Aquinas College for a 3pm game.
