Blauvelt, NY (4/21/07) The Dominican College baseball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double header to host Philadelphia University this afternoon. Philadelphia won the first game 10-9 and took the second game 8-3.
In game one, the Rams held a 5-2 lead after three innings, until the Chargers put up four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-5 lead as freshman Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) hit a two run single and Joe DiMicelli (Staten Island, NY) had an RBI single.
The Rams scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to takea 10-7 lead and held on for the 10-9 victory as DC scored two runs in the top of the ninth.
DC leadoff hitter Yordis Veras (East Elmhurst, NY) went 2-4 in the game with two runs scored. Maloney finished 2-4 with two RBIs and a run sscored. Right fielder Jose Escalera (Bronx, NY) went 1-4, with a double, and three RBIs in the loss.
Charger pitcher Joe Catanese (Huntington, NY) received the loss, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing nine runs on ten hits and three strikeouts.
In the night cap, the Rams pounded out 13 hits in the 8-3 victory and limited the Chargers to six hits. Catcher Marc Mortellaro (Middletown, NY) had two of the Charger hits and was 2-3 in the game.
DC starter Tommy Mejia (Brooklyn, NY) received the loss in 6 2/3 innings of work, allowing 12 hits, seven runs and four strikeouts.
Dominican now stands at 12-11 overall and 5-4 in the CACC.
