Baseball Defeats Post University, 8-3
Blauvelt, NY (4/23/07) The Dominican College Chargers baseball team defeated visiting Post University, 8-2, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball action at Veterans Memorial Park. With the win the Chargers improve to 13-12 overall and 6-4 in the CACC, while the Eagles fall to 14-19 overall and 5-7 in the CACC.

Blauvelt, NY (4/23/07) The Dominican College Chargers baseball team defeated visiting Post University, 8-2, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball action at Veteran’s Memorial Park. With the win the Chargers improve to 13-12 overall and 6-4 in the CACC, while the Eagles fall to 14-19 overall and 5-7 in the CACC.
The Chargers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Yordis Veras (East Elmhurst, NY) was hit by a pitch to start the game, moved to third on a two base throwing error by the Eagles pitcher, trying to pick off Veras, and came in to score on the two run homer to right by sophomore shortstop Jose Made (Binghamton, NY).
The Eagles came back to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the third, taking advantage to two Charger errors. Ryan Depolo (Milford, CT) hit a two out single up the middle, moved to second on a single to right by Matt Dimaina (Schenectady, NY) and raced around third and scored on a throwing error by the D C rightfielder. DiMaina came in to score as the next batter Chris Gelalich (Arcadia, CA) reached on an error by the first basemen.
Dominican regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as Veras led off the inning with a double to right center and scored on the RBI single to left center by Made. With two outs, Tom Keegan (Dickson City, PA) hit a double down the left field line to score Veras as DC took a 4-2 lead. Brian Smith (Stony Point, NY) followed with another double down the left field to score Keegan and freshman Willie Mann (Patterson, NY) hit an RBI single to left to bring in Smith and extend the Charger lead to 6-2. Catcher Peter Gilardo (Cornwall, NY) hit the Chargers third double of the inning, this time to center field, as Mann scored from first to give Dominican a 7-2 lead after five innings.
DC added a run in the bottom of the sixth as Veras reached base after getting hit for the second time and raced around to third on an attempted pickoff by the catcher who throw the ball into right field. Veras scored on the RBI single by Maloney as the Chargers took an 8-2 lead.
Charger starter Matt Dilgen (Staten Island, NY) got the win in 7 2/3 innings pitched with two runs on seven hits, while Eagle starter Richie Pierro (Essex, MA) received the loss in 4 2/3 innings pitched, allowing five runs on five hits.
Dominican is back in action tomorrow when they host Millersville University in a non-conference game. Game time is 3:30 pm.
