Nyack, NY (4/26/07) Nyack College defeated
Dominican College this evening 4-1 in CACC men’s baseball
action. With the win Nyack improves to 9-26 overall and 6-7
in the conference. Dominican falls to 14-13 overall and 6-5 in the
conference.
Dominican got on the board first in the top of the first inning on
a solo home run from Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park,
NY). Nyack went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the
first but in the bottom of the second Dan Marshall
led off the inning with a solo home run of his own to tie the score
at 1-1. Both teams would threaten with base runners but this
game was turning into a classic pitchers duel between
Dominican’s senior Daniel Bucci (Dobbs Ferry,
NY) and Nyack senior Billy Gleason.
In the top of the sixth Maloney tried to score on
Nyack’s second error of the inning. He was thrown out
at home after an overthrow at third. Gleason
got himself out of a jam and struck out the next two batters.
Dominican left runners stranded at second and third.
Nyack finally broke through in the eighth and scored 3 runs 2
of which were unearned because of 3 Dominican errors in the inning.
Bucci was relieved by Joseph
Catanese (Huntington, NY) in the eighth after the first
two batters reached base, but the errors proved to be costly as
Nyack took their first lead of the game. Gleason
came on for Nyack and took care of Dominican 1-2-3 in the top of
the ninth to seal the victory.
Gleason pitched the complete game and got the win
giving up 1 run on 1 hit and 3 walks. He also struck out 10
batters. Bucci took the loss for Dominican
but pitched well going 7 innings and giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on
5 hits and 4 walks. He struck out 8.
