CHARGERS BASEBALL UPENDS NYACK COLLEGE

Orangeburg, NY (4/22/08)  The Dominican College baseball team defeated the visiting Warriors of Nyack College, 4-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball action this afternoon at Veteran's Memorial Field.

The Warriors scored in the first as Joseph Parisi (Lakeland, FL) got a one out single to right and scored on the two out RBI single by Oscar Ortiz (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) to take a 1-0 lead.

Dominican responded in the bottom stanza scoring three runs on four hits.  Centerfielder Jason Berrios (Brooklyn, NY) led off the game with a single and stole second.  He moved to third on the bunt single by senior Sean Brown (Massapequa, NY) to put two on.  A two run single by first basmen Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) put DC ahead 2-1 and a two out double by shortstop Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) plated Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY) who had reached on a fielder's choice and gave the Chargers a 3-1 lead.

Nyack got a run back in the fourth on the solo home run by junior Cody Levins (McKinney, TX).  The Warriors tied the game in the eighth as Roy DiLiberto (Collingswood, NJ) got a one out single, stole second and moved to third on a infield ground out.  A wild pitch allowed him to score and knotted the game at 3-3.

The Chargers answered in the bottom stanza as Brown got a one out single and stole second base.  With two outs, Lopez delivered a RBI single and lift DC to a 4-3 victory.

Warrior starter Eric Lloyd (Wurtsboro, NY) took the loss (1-3), allowing four runs (four earned) on eight hits in 7 1/3 innings.

Dominican starter Tommy Mejia (Brooklyn, NY) got the complete game win (4-3) after allowing three runs (three earned) on six hits and 14 strikeouts.

With the win the Chargers improve to 21-19 overall and 13-7 in the CACC, while the Warriors fall to 10-22 overall and 8-12.
