CHARGERS BASEBALL SWEEPS WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY

New Castle, DE (4/26/08) The Dominican
College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference (CACC) baseball double-header from host Wilmington
University this afternoon. DC won the first game,5-0 and took
the second game, 9-6.
Dominican's Michael Mondesir (Jamaica, NY) was outstanding the opening, hurling a one-hit shutout while striking out seven in the complete game victory. Jonathan Ryan (Troy, NY) went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
Wilmington managed only one hit, a single by senior Chris Brooks. Freshman Anthony Cimabue (3-4) suffered the loss, giving up six hits and four runs (all earned) over three and two-thirds innings of work.
The Wildcats were able to get on the board in the second game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. The Chargers put up four in the top of the fourth, but Wilmington answered right back with four of their own in the bottom of the frame. Dominican added another four spot in the top of the fifth, and a single run in the sixth, to come away with the 9-6 victory.
Senior Mike Wilson led the ‘Cats, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while junior Cody Holliday was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and RBIs. Senior Brian Testa went 2-for4 with two runs scored and a RBI, while classmate Joe Roth added two hits and a run scored.
Dominican was paced by Ryan, who went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ)was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Tom Kahl (Bay Shore, NY) got the win, allowing six runs (four earned) on 11 hits.
Following the games, Wilmington dropped to 15-7 in the CACC and 22-22 on the season, while Dominican improved to 15-8 in the conference and 23-21 overall.
