Orangeburg, NY (5/2/08) The Chargers baseball squad swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Devils of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia this afternoon at Veteran's Memorial Field. DC won the first game, 9-0 and rallied to win the night cap, 4-1.

Orangeburg, NY (5/2/08) The Chargers
baseball squad swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
(CACC) double-header from the visiting Devils of the University of
the Sciences in Philadelphia this afternoon at Veteran's Memorial
Field. DC won the first game, 9-0 and rallied to win the
night cap, 4-1.
Game One: DC took a 2-0 lead in the first as freshman Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) got a one out single to center, moved to second on a hit batter and went to third on a fielder's choice. He came in on the RBI single to center by designated hitter Marc Mortellaro (Middletown, NY). Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) lined the next pitch to center field for an RBI single to score Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) who had reached on a fielder's choice.
The Chargers added a two runs in the third as Sean Brown (Massapequa, NY) led off the inning with a triple to left field and scored on a fly ball to the second basemen by Mortellaro which carried him into foul territory. Maloney, who had received a free pass earlier, came in to score on the infield single by catcher Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ) as Dominican took a 4-0 lead.
Dominican took a 9-0 lead in the sixth as Maloney hit a three run blast over the right field fence and Jonathan Ryan (Troy, NY) had a two out double down the right field line to score Lopez. Iglesias followed with a single to right to plate Ryan.
Charger starter Michael Mondesir (Jamaica, NY) got the complete game shut out win (5-2), scattering just two hits and four Devil strikeouts. Devil starter Tim Summers (Monrovia, MD) suffered the loss in 5 1/3 innings of work, allowing seven runs on nine hits.
Game Two: The Devils scored a run in the first as Pete McCauley (New Tripoli, PA) led off the inning with a double to left center, moved to third on the sacrifice bunt and scored on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead.
DC took a 2-1 lead in the fifth as Mortellaro led off the inning with a solo blast over the left field fence. Willie Mann (Patterson, NY) followed with an infield single, moved to second on the sacrifice bunt by Jason Berrios (Brooklyn, NY) and scored on the two out double to left field to plate Mann.
The Chargers added two runs in the sixth on the RBI triple to center field by Ryan to score designated hitter Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY), who led off the inning with a single. Ryan came in to score on a wild pitch to give DC a 4-1 leadand eventual victory.
Freshman right hand pitcher Tom Kahl (Bay Shore, NY) got the complete game victory (5-2), allowing one run on four hits and 10 strikeouts. USP hurler Adam Kissinger (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) took the loss.
With the sweep Dominican improves to 25-23 overall and 17-9 in
the CACC, while USP falls to 11-33 overall and 7-19 in the
CACC.
