The Dominican College baseball team finished the 2008 season with an overall record of 28-25 and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record of 18-9.  The team finished the regular season, winning 11 of 14 conference games to finish the regular season in third place.  The Chargers made their 23rd appearance in the 24-year history of the program after garnishing the third place seed.

In the opening round of the CACC Tournament, the team lost to the second seeded Cougars of Caldwell College, 6-4 in ten innings.  In the elimination game, DC rebounded to defeat #4 Felician College, 7-1 and advance to the semi-finals.  In their second elimination game, the Chargers took on the top seeded Rams of Philadelphia University and cruised past them with another 7-1 victory to advance to the Championships where they would have to beat the Cougars twice to take him the title.  The Cougars defeated the Chargers, 3-0 to end the season for Dominican.

Sophomore first basemen, Tommy Maloney, finished second on the team with a .324 average, in hits (58), tied for first in doubles (14) and led the team with three home runs, 45 RBIs and 83 total bases.  He also had a .984 fielding percentage to lead all starters and led the team with a .464 slugging percentage.   He led the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) in RBIs, was in the top five in doubles and was twelfth in doubles. For his efforts, Maloney was named to the 2008 NCBWA All-Northeast Region Second Team, the All-CACC First Team, the 2008 Daktronics Baseball All-Northeast Region Second Team and the 2008 ABCA/Rawlings Division II Northeast Regional Baseball Second Team.

Senior outfielder, Sean Brown, led the offense this season with a .344 average, 62 hits, 42 runs, 39 stolen bases and 14 doubles.  He finished fifth in the CACC in on-base percentage (.461), second in runs scored, hits and sacrifice flies and first in hit by pitch (19), stolen bases and plate appearances (232).  Brown was named to the All-CACC First Team and the All-CACC Tournament Team for his stellar season.

Mondesir, a right handed pitcher from Jamaica, NY, has a 1.12 ERA this season.  He has a 6-2 record on the season, including two consecutive shutout victories to wrap up the regular season.  He has 55 strikeouts in 56.0 innings pitched and opponents hit just .169 against him.  He was named to the All-CACC First Team, the All-CACC Tournament Team and the 2008 ABCA/Rawlings Division II Northeast Regional Baseball Second Team.

Fellow senior, Tommy Mejia finished the season with a 4-3 record.  He led the team with 71.0 innings pitched and was third with a 3.04 ERA.  He finished third in the CACC in opposing batting average (.201) and strike outs (75).  He was named to the All-CAC First Team and recently signed with the Chicago Cubs as a free agent.

With the loss of three senior starters from the lineup, the Chargers will once again rely on a young contingent of players in the 2009 season.  With now a full season of wood bat play under their belts and the return of Maloney and rookie Jonathan Ryan, who had a fine freshman season, the team will look to win the CACC Championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament next season.
