FIVE BASEBALL PLAYERS NAMED TO CACC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

New Haven, Conn. (6/1/17)  Forty-seven (47) student-athletes on Thursday were named to the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball All-Academic Team, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Ten (10) of the schools that sponsor the sport at the varsity level had at least one student-athlete recognized on the All-Academic squad.

Dominican College had five players be named to the CACC All-Academic Team.  Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.), Jordan Bernacet (Schenectady, N.Y.), Zach Pernick (Coral Springs, Fla.), Kraigen Rasalla (Scranton, Pa.) and Kyle Morgan (Boca Raton, Fla.) were all named to the team.

To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, a student-athletes must meet the following criteria: a) minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 at the end of the immediate preceding term; b) minimum of two semesters enrolled as full-time student at member institution; c) student-athlete must be second year student-athlete at member institution; and d) student-athlete must have been athletically eligible the season preceding the award and used a season of eligibility.

Wilmington University led the way with nine honorees on the list, while Felician University and Chestnut Hill College followed with eight honorees apiece.

Sophomore Julian Kurych led WilmU with the highest cumulative grade point average, as he posted a mark of 3.84 in his major of business management. Mike Annone and Zach Rumford were the two Wildcats on the squad who earned All-Academic status for at least the second time in their careers. Annone, who made the squad for the third time, posted a mark of 3.67 in his masters program of sport management. Rumford, a two-time honoree, owns a 3.73 GPA in his major of criminal justice.

Felician was led by Andrew LaMura, as the senior history major owns a team-high GPA of 3.83. Chestnut Hill was led by Joseph Monaghan, as the senior sports a 3.85 mark in his major of accounting. Monaghan was named the CACC Top XV Award winner at the 2017 baseball championship, as he owned the highest GPA of all student-athletes at the finals site.

Ten (10) of the student-athletes on the All-Academic Team earned GPAs of 3.80 or higher. A pair of Post Eagles led the All-Academic Team with GPAs of 3.93, including Kyle Crimmins (Jr., Accounting) and Rafael Tous (Sr., 3.93). 

Seventeen (17) of the student-athletes on the list were multiple-time honorees, including four who were three-time honorees.
