Cary, N.C. (3/11/18) The Chargers fell to the Pioneers of LIU Post on Sunday in the last game of the weekend Cary, NC trip. Dominican, 0-12, is still in search of their first win of the season. The Chargers will now return home and will play their first home games and conference game of the season next Sunday March 18th.
The Chargers scored the first run of the game in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead over the Pioneers. The Pioneers answered in the bottom of the first inning with three runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Pioneers added a run in the second inning and two more runs in the third inning to take a 6-1 lead over the Chargers.
The Chargers cut the deficit to 6-2 when Justin Decker (Rotterdam, NY) drilled a double and Joe Rotelli (Morganville, NJ) singled Decker in for the Charger's second run. The Pioneers added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to extend out to a 9-2 lead which would eventually be the final score of the game.
The Pioneers recorded 14 hits in the victory and six of their 14 hits were doubles. Julien Arcos took the hill for the Pioneers and pitched seven strong innings with five strike outs to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Justin Decker recorded two hits in four at bats for the Chargers and scored both runs. Will Dawson (Cypress, TX) added two hits in the loss and Rotelli recorded two hits and the Charger's only RBI of the game.
The Chargers will be back in action on Sunday March 18th when they host the Felician University Golden Falcons for a conference double header. Game one will start at 2:00 PM and game two is slated for 5:00 PM. Both games will be played at Palisades Credit Union Park.
