BASEBALL OUTLASTS VULCANS

Wilson, N.C. (3/14/19) The Dominican College baseball team outlasted the Vulcans from California University of Pennslyvania, 12-10, this afternoon in a non-conference game played at Fleming Stadium.

Senior Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) went 3-4 in the game with two runs scored.

Center fielder Kennee Torres (Yonkers, N.Y.) had three RBIs and two hits.

DC took a 3-1 lead in the top of the second as Torres recorded an RBI single and two runs scored on Vulcan errors.  Cal U. tied the game in the bottom stanza, but DC charged ahead in the third inning with six runs on four hits.  Left fielder Max Chidsey (Naples, Fla.) hit an RBI single to left center and Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) followed two batters later with a two-run single to right field.  The fourth run scored on a wild pitch and Torres blasted his first collegiate home run on a shot over the right field fence that allowed two runs to score.

The Vulcans would score six runs over the next four innings to re-tie the game at 9-9, but the Chargers would regain the lead for good in the top of the seventh as designated hitter Jordan Bernacet (Schenectady, N.Y.) delivered an RBI single to left field and Chidsey hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field which brought home Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.) for the 11-9 edge.

Dominican added to the lead in the eighth inning on the run-scoring single to left center field off the bat of Bartolomei to increase the lead to 12-9.  Cal U. added a run in the bottom of the eighth for the final 12-10 victory.

Freshman Cole Francher (Gilboa, N.Y.) improved to 2-0 on the season in two innings of relief, allowing two runs on three hits and two strikeouts.

Andrew Bandura (Pine Bush, N.Y.) earned his first save after pitching the final three innings, allowing one run on four hits.

With the win, the Chargers end their trip to North Carolina with an overall record of 7-5.
