Pomona, N.Y. (5/4/19) The Dominican College baseball team defeated the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in the CACC play-in game by a score of 6-4. The Chargers will advance to the CACC double-elimination tournament.
John-Michael Broderick (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) earned the win for the Chargers by pitching 4.2 innings of work and recorded three strikeouts to improve his record to 5-2 on the season.
Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) finished the game going 3 for 3 with two RBI and two runs scored including a double. Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.) finished with two hits including a double and drove in three RBI and scored one run. Elijah Tavarez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) added one RBI on two hits.
Sam Barletta led the Griffins with three RBI and two hits including a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Luke Lebeau recorded the other RBI for the Griffins and finished the game with two hits.
The Chargers jumped in front of the Griffins early in the first inning on an RBI single by Justin Decker. Bartolomei followed with a two-RBI single to extend the DC lead to 3-0. Tavarez added an RBI single in the first inning to give the Chargers a 4-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Lebeau put the Griffins on the board with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-1.
Justin Decker extended the lead to 5-1 when he drove in his second RBI of the game with a double in the bottom of the fourth.
The Griffins rallied in the top of the fifth inning and Sam Barletta hit a three-run homer to bring the Griffins within one run.
Bartolomei extended the Charger lead to 6-4 with an RBI double in the sixth inning and the Chargers closed out the victory to advance.
The Chargers will travel to Waterbury, Conn. for the 2019 CACC Baseball Championships. The Chargers will face Bloomfield College on Thursday, May 9th at 2:00 PM at Municipal Stadium.
