CALDWELL, DOMINICAN WIN IN FINAL NIGHT OF JIM CLANCY TOURNAMENT
Blauvelt, NY (1/3/08) Caldwell College and host
Dominican College revenged losses last night and went on to finish
1-1 on night two of the 2nd Annual Jim Clancy Tournament
held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. The
Caldwell Cougars upended Queens College, 69-67, while the Dominican
Chargers turned back the University of Bridgeport, 68-55.
In the first game, CC took a 10-2 lead to start the game but the Knights put together a 8-1 run with just over two minutes to go in the half to take a 40-33 lead, en route to a 40-35 lead at the half.
There were 13 total ties in this game as the Cougars led by as many as five but the Knights fought back for to tie the game at 67-67 with 0:11 seconds left. Senior Michael Wise (Whitesboro, NJ) went to the line with 0:09 seconds to go and hit two crucial free throws for the 69-67 Cougar win.
B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY) led Caldwell with 18 points and six rebounds. Wise finished with 17 points, five rebounds and three assists, while junior Manny Perez (Egg Harbor Twp, NJ) scored 10 points in the win.
The Knights were led by Khaleef Allicot (Brooklyn, NY) and Maalik Oliver (Roslyn, NY) with 17 points each. Mike Liander (Elmhurst, NY) netted 10 points in the loss.
In the final game, DC took a 29-23 lead at the half and led by as many as 18 points late in the game en route to the 68-55. UB led only three times in the game as they netted the opening basket, regained a one point lead early in the first half and came back from a five point deficit with 5:35 left in the first half to take a 19-18 lead. However, Dominican went on an 11-4 run to end the half with the 29-23 lead.
The Chargers were led by junior guard Jonathan Guzman
(Rutherford, NJ) who netted 18 points and five rebounds
shooting 10-11 from the charity stripe. Guard Brandon
Brock (Newburgh, NY) netted 16 points and a team leading
four assists in the win. Junior Abdul Sulaiman
(Bronx, NY) added 11 points and five rebounds.
The Purple Knights were led by senior Lex James (Brooklyn, NY) with 12 points. Cornell Littlejohn (Oakland, CA) netted 10 points in the loss.
With the wins, Caldwell improves to 3-9 and Dominican improves
to 6-5. Queens drops to 2-9 and Bridgeport falls to 4-6 on
the year.
