MEN'S BASKETBALL UPEND UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES IN PHILADELPHIA
Blauvelt, NY (1/26/08) The Dominican Chargers men's basketball team defeated the visiting Devils of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 72-68 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's hoops action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center for the 21st Annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial Game.
The Chargers jumped out to a 12-2 lead on a three point bucket by junior Brandon Brock (Newburgh, NY) with 15:32 to go in the half. USP fought back late in the half with a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to one, 22-23 with just over five minutes left, but Dominican ended the half with 13-7 run for a 36-29 lead.
In the second half, DC led by as many as 10 points (63-53) with just over four minutes left in the game when the Devils went on a 15-7 run to trail by only three points, 70-67 with 0:22 on the clock. However, being forced to foul, Dominican went on to claim the 72-68 victory.
The Devils were led by senior and USP Most Valuable Player of the Game, Keith Dundas (Yardley, PA) with 15 point and four assists. Forward Charlie Fritsch (Durham, NC) netted 13 points, while junior Shane Connor (Canadensis, PA) contributed 12 points and five caroms off the bench. Guard Jarrod Frazier (Port Norris, NJ) chipped in 11 points and had a team leading seven rebounds in the loss.
The Chargers were led by junior and DC Most Valuable Player of the
Game, Will Carty (Bronx, NY) with a season high 23
points and four steals. Freshman Kris Knez (Astoria,
NY) had career high 15 points and a team leading eight
rebounds. Brock and Brendan McManus
(Pearl River, NY) each finished with 10 points and
combined six rebounds in the win.
With the win, Dominican improves to 10-8 overall and 5-3 in the CACC, while USP falls to 7-10 overall and 2-6 in the CACC.
The Chargers are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Caldwell College in CACC men's basketball action. Game time is 8pm and the Newman Center.
