CHARGERS BASKETBALL TURNS BACK NYACK COLLEGE

Blauvelt, NY (2/5/08)  The Dominican College men's basketball team rallied from a ten point deficit in the first half to turn back the visiting Warriors of Nyack College, 71-60 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

Trailing 7-17 with 12:08 to go in the first, Dominican went on a 21-11 run to take a 28-27 lead into the break.  Nyack regained a two point advantage with 16:40 left in the game but the Charger Jonathan Guzman (Rutherford, NJ) netted a three point bucket lifting Dominican to a 38-35 lead.  DC would never lose the lead again in the game and led by as many as 15 points, 67-52, with just over one minute left in the game.

Nyack had three players in double figures, led by senior guard Brian Roberts (Hartford, CT) with 14 points and eight rebounds.  Mickell Vickers (Babylon, NY) and John VanDunk (Hillburn, NY) combined for 22 points and 12 rebounds off the bench in the loss.

The Chargers also had three players in double digits as Will Carty (Bronx, NY) netted 15 points.  Guzman finished with 14 points, shooting 4-6 from beyond the three point arc, and four rebounds.  Junior Dato Sakvarelidze (Tblisi, Georgia) had 11 points and three steals off the bench in the win.  Senior Shelton Gibbs (Jersey City, NJ) had nine points and team leading six rebounds.

With the win, Dominican improves to 11-11 overall and 6-5 in the CACC, while Nyack falls to 10-12 overall and 5-6 in the CACC.

Dominican is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Post University in CACC men's basketball action.   Game time is 3pm.
