#3 DOMINICAN CHARGERS FALL TO #2 CALDWELL COUGARS IN CACC QUARTER-FINALS

Blauvelt, NY (3/1/08) The second seeded Cougars of Caldwell College defeated the third seeded Chargers from Dominican, 79-65 this afternoon in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament quarter-finals held at the George R. Newman Center in Caldwell, NJ.  With the win, Caldwell advances to the CACC semi-finals on Wednesday night.

The Cougars had an early 9-4 lead but the Chargers came back with a 5-0 run to knot the game at 9-9 with 13:21 left in the first half.  Tied at 22-22 with 2:56 remaining, Caldwell went on a 12-3 spurt to end the first half with a 34-25 advantage.

The second half saw CC built up a 71-48 lead with 7:59 left, but Dominican fought with a 17-8 run over the last eight minutes to cut the lead to 79-65.    

Caldwell shot 57.1% (28-49) from the floor to the Charges 36.1% (22-61).  Dominican struggled shooting only 1-21 from three points land, while the Cougars went 6-13 (46.2%)  DC netted 30 points off CC turnovers, while Caldwell took advantage of Dominican turnovers with 25 points.

The Chargers were led by junior guard Brandon Brock (Newburgh, NY) with 17 points and five rebounds.  Jonathan Guzman (Rutherford, NJ) added eight points in the loss.

Manny Perez led the Cougars with 20 points and five rebounds, while BJ Suchy added 16 points and five caroms.  Guard Eddie Crockett scored 13 points and Sam Cricelli added 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

With the win, Caldwell improves 12-16 overall and 8-8, while Dominican ends their season with a record of 13-15.
