DOMINICAN EARNS 84-72 VICTORY OVER SNHU AT ECAC/COMMERCE BANK CLASSIC

CALDWELL, NJ (12/23/07) Guard Will
Carty (Bronx, NY) scored 18 points as the Dominican
College men’s basketball team defeated Southern New Hampshire
University, 84-72 Sunday afternoon at the ECAC/Commerce Bank
Classic, hosted by Caldwell College. The win ends a two-game losing
skid for the Chargers, who improve to 5-2 on the season. The Penmen
fall to 4-6 with the loss.
Carty went 4-for-4 from three-point range in the first
half to help the Chargers take a 45-35 lead at the break. Six
points by Troy Bowen and four from Sam
Carey allowed the Penmen to open the second half with a
10-4 run that cut the Dominican lead to 49-45 with 16:26 remaining.
But a 10-2 spree capped by a three-pointer from Brandon
Brock (Newburgh, NY) lifted Dominican to a commanding
59-47 advantage with 13:18 left. SNHU was able to pull within seven
points with 6:27 on the clock, but the Chargers wrapped up the win
by scoring 12 of the next 14 points. For the game, Dominican shot a
blazing 58.8 percent from beyond the arc while making 18-of-23
(78.3 percent) from the free throw line.
Carty, who also had two assists, was one of four
Chargers to score in double figures. Brock
finished with 15 points, Jonathan Guzman (Rutherford,
NJ) had 14 points and Henry Elegar (Bronx,
NY) recorded 10 points and a team-best eight rebounds.
Carey led all scorers with 29 points to go with
nine boards for the Penmen, with Bowen adding 15
points.
In the day’s final game, Timothy Munch
earned his second Player of the Game award of the weekend with 22
points to lead Franklin Pierce University past the host Cougars,
68-51.
