Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/16/17) Dominican's Gerrel Irvin (Bay Shore, N.Y.) has received All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) men's basketball honorable-mention accolades announced by the league's office Thursday morning.
Irvin was one of four student-athletes who earned All-ECAC honorable-mention accolades. He joined Matthew Dogan of Gannon, Hunter LeVeau of King (Tenn.) and Michael Mallory of Southern Connecticut State.
Mallory was selected as the ECAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year, while Newberry's Marshall Lange secured top rookie honors. Patrick Beilein from Le Moyne (N.Y.) was named Coach of the Year to round out the major awards.
Irvin,a junior forward, was previously named to the All-CACC First Team. He led the conference in total rebounds, offensive rebounds, rebounds per game and games played). He ranked third in blocks and 11th in scoring. He led the Chargers in scoring and rebounds, while being the only Charger averaging a double-double for the season. Irvin recorded 15 double-doubles this season.
He was one of this year's captains and was named to the ECC-CACC Challenge presented by WNY Knee and Orthopedic Surgery PC All-Tournament Team. Irvin earned three CACC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.
