MEN'S BASKETBALL UPEND LIONS IN FINALE OF 6TH ANNUAL DANIEL SULLIVAN MEMORIAL TOURANMENT

Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/18/17) The Dominican College men's basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season after defeating the visiting Lions of Molloy College, 76-65, this evening in the finale of the 6th Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament, hosted by Dominican College on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.

Sophomores Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) scored 21 points each in the win, while Rodwell added six rebounds.

Sayon Charles (Staten Island, N.Y.) grabbed a team high nine rebounds and scored 13 points in reserve for Dominican.

Nick Corbett netted a career high 30 points to lead the Lions, while Curtis Jenkins added 16 points and Josh Dennis produced the game's only double-double of 10 points and 10 caroms.

A Grant free throw gave the Chargers a 15-14 edge with 11:22 remaining in the first half and began an 11-1 run to increase the lead to 26-15 with a little over six minutes on the clock.  The Lions would cut the lead to five (34-31) with 26 ticks left, but Rodwell closed out the first half scoring with a bucket to make the score 36-31 at the break.

Rodwell would net 13 points in the first stanza and Grant tallied 10 points as the Chargers shot 40.6% (13-32) from the floor.

DC led 41-35 early in the second half when a 14-0 tear propelled them to a 53-35 lead with 14:13 to play.  Molloy would cut the lead to eight points (68-60) with a little over a minute remaining, but that would be as close as they would get as the Chargers went on to the 76-65 victory.

In the opening game of the night, the Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose rallied to defeat Caldwell University, 50-48.

Dominican will return to action on Wednesday, November 29th when they travel to Post University for their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opening contest.  Game time is scheduled for 7pm.
