Bloomfield, N.J. (12/2/17) The Dominican College men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the 2017-2018 season to Bloomfield College, 86-81, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division game played in Bloomfield Gym.
With the loss, the Chargers are now 5-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Sophomore Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) led all scorers in the contests with 24 points and added five assists.
Guard Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) recorded his first double-double of the season with 11 points and team best 11 boards in the loss.
Sayon Charles (Staten Island, N.Y.) posted nine points and seven rebounds to round out the starters.
Dominican trailed 42-26 with 3:48 remaining in the first half when they went on a 10-0 tear to cut the defict to 42-38 with 1:29 on the clock. DC netted the final four points of the half to make the score 47-42 at the intermission.
Grant finished the first half with 12 points (4-8 from the floor). As a team, the Chargers shot well from the foul line in the half, going 10-11 (90.9%).
Trailing 50-42 early in the second frame, Dominican used an 11-2 run to claim a 53-52 edge with just under 17 minutes remaining in the half. A Garcia layup would put DC ahead, 64-60 with under 11 to play and they would hold that lead until the 7:09 mark when a Bear layup would regain a 65-64 advantage with seven minutes left and were able to maintain their lead throughout the remainder of the game.
As a team the Chargers shot 423% (30-71) from the floor and 73.7% (14-19) from the charity stripe, but struggled from the three-point arc going just 7-28 (25.0%).
Dominican returns to conference action this coming Tuesday night as they travel to Concordia College for a 7pm contest.
