Rindge, NH (11/2/06) Second-seeded Southern Connecticut State University, ranked No. 13-in this weeks National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, registered a 2-1 victory over No. 22-ranked Dominican College in the NCAA New England Regional semi-finals at Sodexho Field this evening.

RINDGE, N.H. (November 2, 2006) - Second-seeded Southern Connecticut State University, ranked No. 13-in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, registered a 2-1 victory over No. 22-ranked Dominican College in the NCAA New England Regional semi-finals at Sodexho Field this evening.
Freshman Dan Costello (Rive Vale, NJ) opened the scoring for Dominican College as he connected for his third goal of the season in the 11th minute of the match off a cross-pass from junior Jhonny Arteaga (Cali, Colombia).
Southern Connecticut netted the equalizer in the 39th minute as freshman Michael DiBartolomeo (Wallingford, CT) slipped passed the Dominican defense and deposited his second goal of the season off a dish from junior Ancil Farrier (Los Bajos, Trinidad). The Owls added the game-winner in the 63rd minute of the match as sophomore Tom Mattera (Norwalk, CT) buried a shot from 20 yards out off an assist from Igor Santos (Centerville, MA).
Dominican held several scoring opportunities late in the second half as shots by junior Joseph Ruesgen (Campbelltown, Scotland) and Arteaga just sailed over the top of the crossbar.
Junior goalkeeper Brendan Lawless (Orleans, MA) stopped one shot in net to earn his 16th victory of the season for Southern Connecticut. Dominican senior goalkeeper Robert Kelly (Kearny, NJ) collected two saves despite the loss.
Southern Connecticut (16-2-3, 11-1-1 NE-10) advances to Saturday's regional final at 7 p.m. to face the winner of today's second match between top-seeded, No. 4 ranked Franklin Pierce and fourth-seeded Southern New Hampshire University. Dominican concludes its season with an overall mark of 12-4-3, 8-0-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).
