DOMINICAN AIMS FOR FOURTH CONSECUTIVE CACC MEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP

New Haven (10/29/07) Dominican College will be looking to win its fourth consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Tournament Championship, as the 2007 tournament is set to begin on Monday, Oct. 29. The Chargers went 8-0-1 in conference play and 11-2-5 overall this season to garner the No. 1 seed. The semifinals and finals of the tournament will be hosted by Felician College at Tryon Field on Wednesday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 3. The championship match is slated for Saturday at 6:30 pm.

The Chargers and No. 2 Wilmington University will both get first-round byes in the six-team tournament. No. 3 Caldwell College will host No. 6 Bloomfield College in Monday's quarterfinal round, while No. 4 Holy Family University will welcome the fifth seed, Post University. Both games will begin at 2:00 pm.

Dominican will play the winner of the Holy Family vs. Post match in Wednesday's semifinal round at 11:00 am. Dominican defeated both squads in the regular season, by a score of 3-2 over the Tigers and 2-1 over the Eagles. The Chargers are led by senior Jhonny Arteaga, who leads the CACC with 38 points and 16 goals. Freshman Joe Wright has made an immediate impact and has accrued 23 points (nine goals, five assists) to rank second on the team and fifth in the conference. The Chargers won last year's championship with a 1-0 win over Post.

No. 2 Wilmington will play the winner of the Caldwell vs. Bloomfield contest at approximately 1:30 pm on Wednesday. Wilmington is led by sophomore Sargbah Tarpeh, who has registered 20 points (nine goals, two assists) to rank sixth in the CACC. The Wildcats went 7-1-1 in conference play this year and 11-5-1 overall. Wilmington and Caldwell played to a 1-1 tie back on Oct. 6, and the Wildcats upended Bloomfield, 1-0, on Oct. 13.

No. 3 Caldwell went 6-1-2 in conference play and 9-5-4 overall this season and will play a Bloomfield team it defeated by a score of 3-0 back on Sept. 18. Sophomore forward Justin Miller tallied two goals in that contest. Junior forward Chad Bennett leads the Cougars with 19 points (nine goals, one assist). Bloomfield went 2-4-3 in the CACC and enters the tournament with a 3-11-3 overall mark.

Holy Family went 6-3 in conference play and 12-7-1 overall to capture the No. 4 seed. Post wrapped up the regular-season with a 3-5-1 record in the CACC and a 4-13-1 overall mark. The Tigers defeated the Eagles back on Sept. 8, 1-0, in Philadelphia. The lone goal in the game came from senior midfielder Steve Kientzy. Kientzy leads Holy Family and is fourth in the CACC with 24 points (11 goals, two assists). Post's Eurica Trowers stands second in the conference with 26 points and is also second with 13 goals in 16 games.
