DOMINICAN USES BIG SECOND HALF TO BEAT CALDWELL IN MEN’S SOCCER

Caldwell, NJ (9/30/08) The Dominican College men's soccer squad scored three unanswered goals in the second half to lift them to a 4-1 victory in a game between unbeaten Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foes Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field.

With the loss, Caldwell falls to 3-1 in conference play and 6-5 overall, while the Chargers improve to 7-2 overall, 3-0 CACC.  This was the ninth straight victory for Dominican over Caldwell.

Junior midfielder James Hamilton (Paisley, Scotland) got the Chargers on the board in the fifth minute of action after receiving a pass from Joe Wright (Stratford-Upon-Avon, England) and blasting a shot into the goal from 22 yards out.

The Cougars battled back to with a goal by freshman forward Jonathan Costa (Mississauga, Ontario) in the 35th minute. Senior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica) started the play with a pass down the right flank to junior midfielder Justin Miller (Monroe, NJ), who crossed the ball into the penalty area to Costa who was able to put the ball in the net.

Dominican broke the 1-1 tie in the 58th minute when Dan Kelly (Massapequa, NY) headed home a corner kick from Diego Barahona (Stamford, CT). Less than three minutes later, Barahona received a pass from Edwin Miranda (Stamford, CT) and fired a shot into the right side of the goal to put the Chargers ahead 3-1. Hamilton completed the scoring with his second goal of the game off a pass from Diego Miranda (Stamford, CT) in the 85th minute.

Dominican keeper Brandon Heembrock (Ottawa, Canada) made seven saves, including five in the first half, in the win. Cougar keeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ) recorded two saves,

The Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Chestnut Hill College in CACC men's soccer action.  Game time is 2:30 pm in Philadelphia.
