Lady Chargers Softball Sweeps Philadelphia University
Blauvelt, NY (4/7/07) The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double header against visiting Philadelphia University this afternoon at the DC Softball Field. Dominican took the first game, 7-6 and won the night cap 10-8 in the slug fest that featured eight home runs in two games. With the wins, DC improves to 12-8 overall and 4-2 in the CACC, while Philadelphia falls to 6-16 overall and 3-5 in the CACC

Blauvelt, NY (4/7/07) The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double header against visiting Philadelphia University this afternoon at the DC Softball Field. Dominican took the first game, 7-6 and won the night cap 10-8 in the slug fest that featured eight home runs in two games. With the wins, DC improves to 12-8 overall and 4-2 in the CACC, while Philadelphia falls to 6-16 overall and 3-5 in the CACC.
Game one was tied 1-1 until the sixth inning when Ram second basemen Janine Becker (Galloway, NJ) led off the inning with a solo homer run for a 2-1 Philadelphia lead. Dominican responded in the bottom half of the inning with three runs on back to back singles by Lauren Galladay (Aberdeen, NJ) and Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) for a 4-2 lead.
The Rams fought back in the top of the seventh to take a 6-4 lead on two home runs by Jacque Curtis (Punxsutawney, PA), a solo shot, and Becker, a three run blast for her second homer of the game.
Dominican rallied in the bottom of the seventh as Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) got a one out single and Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) got on base on a fielder’s choice. Sophomore Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) hit the game winning home run over the center field fence, lifting the Lady Chargers to the 7-6 victory.
Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) (4-1) got the win in relief, while Curtis (2-6) suffered the loss.
In game two, Philadelphia jumped out to a 4-3 lead after three innings, highlighted by a two run blast by Maggie Desmond (Bayport, NY). The Rams went ahead in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs on three hits as Curtis hit her second home run of the game, this time a three run shot over the left field fence for 7-3 lead.
The Lady Chargers tied the game in the bottom stanza as Stathes led off the inning with a double and scored on an RBI single by Knuth. Ollari followed with a 2 run double to center field to tie the game at 7-7. DC went ahead in the bottom of the fifth as Stathes hit her second double of the game and came in to score on Ollari’s second home run of the day to put Dominican up 9-7 en route to the 10-8 victory.
Stathes got the win in game two to improve her record to 5-2 on the year, while Kelly Rauco (Nutley, NJ) falls to 2-5.
