Piasecki Earns CACC Softball Rookie of the Week Honors
New Haven, CT (4/30/07) Mallorie Mathews of Bloomfield College has garnered Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Player of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, April 29. Nicole Webb of Caldwell College has been chosen Pitcher of the Week, while Rookie of the Week honors goes to Cara Piasecki of Dominican College.

New Haven, CT (4/30/07) Mallorie Mathews of Bloomfield College has garnered Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Player of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, April 29. Nicole Webb of Caldwell College has been chosen Pitcher of the Week, while Rookie of the Week honors goes to Cara Piasecki of Dominican College.
Piasecki, a freshman shortstop from Port Monmouth,
NJ, posted a .529 batting average with three home runs, five RBI
and six runs scored in a 4-4 week. She also hit for a 1.059
slugging percentage. Piasecki hit homers against Bloomfield, Holy
Family and Georgian Court on the week.
Mathews, a sophomore 3B from Fair Lawn, NJ, hit .643 with four home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored in leading the Deacons to a 4-0 week. In a double-header at USP, she went 5-for-7 with four RBI, five runs scored and two home runs. She also blasted a homer and drove in three runs in a double-header versus Dominican.
Webb, a senior righty from Toms River, NJ, went 2-2 on the week with a 1.53 ERA after allowing seven runs in 32.0 innings of work. She fanned 29 batters and walked only five. She pitched four complete games, including three extra-inning contests. Furthermore, she struck out 12 batters in a victory at Post.
Honorable Mention
Sarah Beck, Dominican - Hit .500 in a 4-4 week with 11 runs scored , five RBI and one home run.
Samantha Tu, USP - Hit .615 in four games with three doubles, four RBI and two runs scored. Hit for a .846 slugging %.
Heather Walker, Georgian Court - Hit .583 with three home runs, seven RBI and six runs scored in a 1-3 week.
CACC Notes
Bloomfield - The Deacons went 4-0 to clinch their first 20-win season and second playoff berth since becoming an NCAA Division II school. Bloomfield set a school record with five home runs in one game against Dominican. In their next game against USP, the Deacons equaled that total with their second straight five homer game. Mallorie Mathews and Vickie Berardi each hit three homers in a doubleheader against USP. Bloomfield has recorded 43 hits and 12 homers in their past 3 games. Bloomfield closed the season by going 11-2 in their last 13 CACC games to clinch the 4 seed in the conference tournament.
Caldwell - The Cougars earned their fourth consecutive CACC regular-season title with a record of 17-5 in conference play, tying for first with co-champion Georgian Court. In the past four seasons, Caldwell has compiled a record of 73-11 in the CACC. This year's class of seniors has won 153 games in their careers so far to become the winningest class in the program's history. The Cougars fell out of the national rankings last week for the first time this season and only the second time in the last four years. Caldwell received 12 points in the poll, two points shy of 25th-ranked Wayne State.
Felician - Felician needs two victories today at Philadelphia University to quality for the CACC Tournament for the third consecutive season. Junior C Heather Van Dyke picked up her 100th career hit in Game 1 on Apr. 23 vs. Dominican, joining teammate Meredith Rainer as Golden Falcons to join the 100-hit club this season. Sophomore OF Jenna Krowl hit her second career grand slam in that game. Freshman SS Nicole Degenhardt had her team's first four-hit game of the season in Game 2 vs. the Chargers and went 6 for 9 with two doubles and a homer in the twinbill. Felician picked up more CACC wins last week (5-1) than it had all season to that point (4-10), and its current four-game winning streak, as well as being three games over .500, both match season highs.
Georgian Court - Georgian Court (23-21, 17-5 CACC) clinched the #1 seed for the CACC Tournament. The Lions face the winner of Bloomfield College versus Post University at 2pm on the Lakewood campus.
Philadelphia - Junior catcher/pitcher Jacque Curtis drove in a career-high six runs in the Lady Rams' 10-1 win at the University of the Sciences on April 24th. This included Curtis' sixth homerun of the season, setting a new single-season school record.
USP - USP's 14 wins are the most by a Devils softball team since
the 2001 season when USP won 14 games. The Devils 14-23 season is
an 11.5 game improvement over the 2006 effort (4-37). Sarina Lavooy
and her sister Samantha closed out their careers ranked #1 and #2
respectively on the Devils all-time hits list with 165 and 127
hits. Megan Trimble closed out her career in the #4 position on
USP's all-time list with 124 career hits. Trimble is also the
Devils all-time home run leader (21) and RBI leader (88). Laura
Flint closed out her career as the Devils all-time strikeout leader
with 256.
