LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL SWEEPS NYACK COLLEGE

Nyack, NY (4/8/08)  The Lady Chargers softball squad swept their second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header this afternoon after defeating host Nyack College, 12-3 and 9-0.  With the win Dominican improves to 11-13 overall and 7-1 in the CACC while Nyack falls to 4-14 overall and 0-8 in the CACC. 

In the first game Dominican pitcher Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) got the victory after pitching 5 innings and giving up 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6.  Lauren Merkley took the loss for Nyack.  Dominican put together a big inning in the third doing the bulk of their damage by scoring 8 runs.  They would add 1 in the fourth and 3 more in the 5th.  Nyack jumped out to the early lead scoring the first run of the game in the 1st inning.  They ended the game with 2 runs in the 5th but it was not enough.  Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) had a big game going 2-3 with a double, a homerun and 3 RBI's.  Stathes and Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) also homered in the game.  Jacqui Keiser had 2 hits for Nyack while Lauren Campbell scored 2 runs and went 1-3.

In the second game Nyack could not get the bats going as Dominican's Garrison pitched a complete game shutout.  She pitched 7 innings giving up 2 hits and walking 1 while striking out 5.  Sarah Bolles went the distance for Nyack giving up 9 runs (4 earned) on 12
hits while walking 5 and striking out none.  Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) led Dominican going 2-4 with 2 RBI's and a run scored.  Scarillo went 3-3 with and RBI and a run scored while Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) was 1-4 with 2 RBI's and a run scored.  Christina Braziel went 1-2 for Nyack while Lynnae Thompson went 1-1.

The Lady Chargers are back in action on Thursday when they host Holy Family University in CACC women's softball action.  Game time is set for 3pm at the DC Softball Field.
