Dominican Downs Georgian Court University, 83-59
Blauvelt, NY (2/20/07) The Dominican College womens basketball team downed visiting Georgian Court University, 83-59 this evening on Coach Baxter Court in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference womens action.
The Lady Chargers started the game
with a 5-0 run, but GCU responded with a 7-2 run to tie the game at
7-7 with 15:18 to go on a three point bucket by junior
Stephanie Longdo (Barnegat, NJ).
Dominican then went on a 11-0 run finished by an and one play by
sophomore Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) to take a
18-7 lead with just under twelve minutes to go in the first
stanza. The rest of the half was all DC as
junior guard Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) ended the
first half with a three point shot as the Lady Chargers went into
halftime with a 51-18 lead.
Dominican continued to dominated the
game coming out of halftime with a 10-4 run to take a 61-20
lead. GCU would cut the lead to 71-44 on a lay up by
Longdo but that’s as close as they would get
as DC strolled to the 83-59 victory.
The Lions were led by
Longdo who had a game leading 22
points. Freshman Tiffani Brown (Willingboro,
NJ) netted 15 points and five rebounds in the loss, while
Ashley Lobbato (Monroe, NJ) had a game leading
nine rebounds.
The Lady Chargers had four players in double figures, led by
freshman Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) and senior
guard Jackie Tracey-Spitaleri (Bronx, NY) who
netted 15 points a piece, while Tracey-Spitaleri
had a game leading seven assists and three
steals. Rotio finished with 14
points, four rebounds and two steals, while
Chambers added 11 points and two steals off the
bench in the win.
With the win,
Dominican improves to 17-8 overall and 13-7 in the CACC, while
Georgian Court University falls to 5-20 overall and 3-17 in the
CACC.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Thursday when they host
Post University in CACC women’s action.
Game time is scheduled for 6pm.
