#6 DOMINICAN LADY CHARGERS FALL TO #3 FRANKLIN PIERCE UNIVERSITY RAVENS
Philadelphia, PA (3/14/08) The #6 seeded Dominican
College Lady Chargers fall to #3 seeded Franklin Pierce University
Ravens, 66-54 this afternoon in the NCAA Northeast Region
Quarter-Finals being held at the Campus Center of the top seeded
Holy Family University Tigers.
In the first half, the Ravens went on an 8-0 run to start the game. DC freshman Shanice Scully (St. Albans, NY) hit a jumper with 15:59 to break the run. FPU built an eleven point lead (15-4) with just under 12 minutes left in the half when DC went on an 6-0 Althea Chambers's (Yonkers, NY) run to bring the Lady Chargers within five points. Franklin Pierce answered back to close out the half with a 20-11 run to take a 35-21 lead into the intermission.
In the first half, Dominican shot just 21.2% (7-33) from the floor and was 0-11 from three point land. FPU shot 57.1% (16-28) from the floor and just 12.5% (1-8) from beyond the arc. DC shot well from the charity stripe 87.5% (7-8), while the Ravens shot 28.6% (2-7).
Chambers led the Lady Chargers in the first stanza with
10 points and a game leading nine rebounds. Johannah
Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England) led FPU with 13 points,
five rebounds and three steals.
Late in the second half, FPU held a 63-43 lead as Jess McPherson () hit one of two free throws. Dominican used the last 5:13 to go on a 13-3 run to cut the deficit to 66-54 as the buzzer sounded at the end of regulation.
Chambers had the game's only double-double with 15 points and a season high 15 rebounds. Sophomore forward Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) netted nine points and a team leading four steals, while Scully ended the game with eight points. Senior guard Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) ended the day with seven points.
The Ravens were led by Leedham with 21 points and seven rebounds. McPherson finished with 11 points and six boards. Jennifer Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England) had a team leading 11 rebounds in the win.
With the win, the Ravens (26-5) advance to the NCAA Northeast
Region Semi-Finals against second seeded Stonehill College tomorrow
evening at 6pm. Dominican ends their season with a 22-9
record.
