COUGAR WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TOPS DOMINICAN

Caldwell, NJ (2/2/10)  The Caldwell College women's basketball team ended a three-game losing streak by defeating the visiting Lady Chargers of Dominican College, 67-55 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at the George R. Neuman Center.

The Cougars used an 8-2 run to take a 32-23 lead, their largest of the half, with two minutes remaining before the break.  Two free throws from freshman Shannon Lavelle (Floral Park, NY) and a basket from forward Marley Klunk (York, PA) cut the deficit to five, 32-27, at the intermission.

Caldwell started off the second half with a 7-0 run to rebuild a 39-27 advantage.  Trailing 46-37 with 13:17 left in the game, the Lady Chargers used back-to-back-to-back treys from Kaity Lent (Vineland, NJ), Rachlle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) and Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) to pull within two points, 48-46 at the 10:50 mark.  With only a two point advantage with 4:00 remaining in regulation, the Cougars went on a 9-0 run to go up 62-51 and never looked back en route to the 67-55 victory.

Lavelle led the Lady Chargers with 13 points, four assists and tallied five rebounds.  Laskowski finished with 12 points, while Bianca Harris (Teaneck, NJ) came off the bench to grab seven rebounds.  Shanice Scully (St. Albans, NY) led the team with eight caroms, while Sainten added nine points and five rebounds.

With the loss Dominican falls to 10-9 overall and 7-4 in the CACC, while Caldwell improves to 10-9 overll and 6-6 in the CACC.

Dominican takes on CACC North Division opponent, Bloomfield College, in a road game slated to begin at 6pm.
