Bridgeport, Conn. (3/12/18) Sophomore Jenna Fox (Stony Point, N.Y.) recorded career highs in goals (6) and game points (9) to lead the Dominican College women's lacrosse team to a 13-10 victory over host, University of Bridgeport, in a non-conference game played this afternoon on Knights Field.
With the win, Dominican improves to 1-4 on the season, while the University of Bridgeport falls to 0-3.
Fox, a midfielder, recorded six goals (one nine shots) and three assists for a total of nine game points in the victory.
Senior Jeanie Peluso (Stony Point, N.Y.) scored the other two Lady Charger goals.
Keeper Cara Moran (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) made 16 saves in the victory.
The Purple Knights led 3-2, following a man-up score, with 14:12 remaining in the first half when Dominican charged ahead by netting seven unanswered goals to jump ahead, 9-3. A UB goal a little over a minute left made the score, 9-4 at the intermission.
Bridgeport opened the first 16 minutes of the second half on a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to 10-9. A free position goal by Fox regained a two-goal lead for the Lady Chargers, but the Purple Knights answered less than two minutes later with an unassisted goal to make the score 11-10 with sixth and a half minutes left in regulation.
Kelleher completed the hat trick with her third game goal off the assist from Heegan to give the Lady Chargers some breathing room (12-10) and Fox closed out the game with a free position goal for the final 13-10 win.
UB outshot the Lady Chargers, 34-28 for the game, while both teams each had 25 ground balls and two free position goals. DC went 18-25 in clear attempts.
Dominican continues on their non-conference road trip as they travel to Molloy College this coming Thursday evening.
