CHARGERS SOCCER OPEN 2009 SEASON WITH VICTORY OVER ASSUMPTION COLLEGE

Worcester, MA (8/27/09) Senior forward Joe Wright (Stratford-Upon-Avon, England) tallied two of the three goals the Chargers scored in the second half, as they rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat non-conference opponent, Assumption College, 3-2 this afternoon at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

Worcester, MA (8/27/09) Senior forward Joe Wright (Stratford-Upon-Avon, England) tallied two of the three goals the Chargers scored in the second half, as they rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat non-conference opponent, Assumption College, 3-2 this afternoon at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

Assumption College junior foward Steve Blaisdell (Peabody, MA) netted the first half's only goal at 29:40 off a crossing pass from freshman Dan Davis (Shrewsbury, MA).

The Chargers netted their first goal of the 2009 season at the 63:45 mark as senior defender Dan Kelly (Massapequa, NY) converted a pass from senior James Hamilton (Paisely, Scotland) feed to knot the game at 1-1.

Wright netted his first goal at 78:25 to put the Chargers in front, 2-1, on a brilliant unassisted effort.  Greyhounds senior back Doug Starbird (Dunstable, MA) tied the game on a feed from sophomore Scott Buckholz (Seymour, CT) at 81:81.

Wright knotched the game winner at 89:00 on a looping shot over the goalkeeper on a feed from sophomore midfielder John Langdon (Bellport, NY).

Charger goalie Brandon Heembrock (Ottawa, Ontario) made six saves in net in the victory.

Assumption keeper Matt Wrenn (Windham, NH) had three saves in the loss.

With the victory Dominican improves to 1-0 on the season, while Assumption falls to 0-1.

The Chargers are back in action on Saturday in another non-conference game at Saint Anselm College.  Game time is slated for 4pm.
