Syracuse, NY (9/2/09) The Dominican College men's soccer team played to a 0-0 double overtime draw with non-conference host, Le Moyne College this afternoon.
Le Moyne controlled play in the first half, posting a 5-2 advantage in shots and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks, but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.
The Chargers controlled possession in the second half as they
held a 10-3 advantage in shots and a 2-0 lead in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalie Brandon Heembrock (Ottawa,
Canada) made a game winning save as he was able to stop a
one-on-one shot from junior
forward Angelo Reina (Frankfurt, N.Y./Utica Notre
Dame), the Northeast-10 player of the week.
Dominican continued to control possession in overtime as they held a 4-3 edge in shots, including three on goal. Le Moyne had two opportunities in the first overtime which they could not convert, with one free kick hitting the left post and Heembrock recording a big save on a shot from 10yards out.
Heembrock tallied four saves in the tie, while Dolphin goalie Steve White (Cortland, NY) had six saves.
With the tie, Dominican now stands at 1-0-1 on the year, while Le Moyne now also stands at 1-0-1.
Dominican is back in action on Friday when they take on American International College at the Merrimack College Invitational. Game time is set for 4pm.
