North Andover, MA (9/4/09) The Dominican College men's soccer team, ranked sixth in the NSCAA/NCAA East Region Rankings, upended American International College, 2-1 this afternoon at the Merrimack College Invitational.
The game was scoreless until the 81st minute of action when the Yellow Jacket sophomore midfielder Tim Britt (North Chelmsford, MA) took a cross from the right corner from Sean Stevenson (Holyoke, MA) to give AIC a 1-0 lead.
The Chargers tied the game at 82:24 when freshman midfielder James Flaherty (London, England) netted his first collegiate goal off the double assist by senior Joe Wright (Stratford-Upon-Avon, England) and fellow freshman Alex MacDonald (High Wycombe, England).
Wright netted the game winning goal at 83:14 as he converted a penalty kick to lift Dominican to the 2-1 victory and notch his third goal of the season.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Chargers, 19-16 and held an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks in the game.
Sophomore goalie Brandon Heembrock (Ottawa, Canada) made seven saves for Dominican in the victory.
With the win Dominican improves to 2-0-1 on the season, while American International falls to 0-3.
Dominican is back in action on Sunday when they take on host Merrimack College at 4pm.
