MEN'S SOCCER BEATS #22 UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS-LOWELL
Lowell, MA (9/9/09) Dominican College senior forward and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week, Joe Wright (Stratford-Upon-Avon, England), netted the lone goal in the 76th minute of action to lead the Chargers over No. 22 the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, 1-0, this evening in a non-conference men's soccer game at Cushing Field.
Lowell, MA (9/9/09) Dominican College senior forward and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week, Joe Wright (Stratford-Upon-Avon, England), netted the lone goal in the 76th minute of action to lead the Chargers over No. 22 the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, 1-0, this evening in a non-conference men's soccer game at Cushing Field.
Wright's game winning goal came as he was able to perfectly time a pass from freshman Alex Rodier (Williamstown, NJ) into the box and put the ball inside the right post and past a diving River Hawk goalie from 12 yards out.
Dominican tallied the game's first scoring opportunity as senior midfielder James Hamilton's (Paisley, Scotland) shot went wide left in the 15th minute of play.
The River Hawks had a chance in the 19th minute as a header from junior Stephen Potcner (Wilmington, MA) went wide left.
Wright tested the River Hawk goalie in the 58th minute when he took possession of a loose ball in the right side of the box and took a shot, but the goalie was able to stop the shot.
UMASS-Lowell outshot the Chargers 11-9, while both teams had four corner kicks a piece.
Sophomore goalie Brandon Heembrock (Ottawa, Canada) made three saves in the victory.
With the victory Dominican improves to 4-0-1 overall, while the River Hawks fall to 1-1.
Dominican is back in action on Saturday when they open up CACC play when they host Holy Family University. Game time is slated for 2:30 pm at the DC Soccer Field.
