Blauvelt, NY (1/23/08) The Dominican College Lady Chargers basketball team defeated the visiting Felician College Golden Falcons, 74-52 this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Dominican jumped out to an 21-9 lead with 8:43 to go in the half, but a 7-0 Golden Falcon run cut the deficit to 21-16 with just over five minutes remaining as Dee Dee Smith (Monticello, NY) hit a free throw and followed with a jumper. FC cut the lead to 24-21 with 2:54 to go before the break on a three shots from the charity stripe from Breanne DeFalco (East Brunswick, NJ) but sophomore Frankie Melione (Wayne, NJ) hit a three to lift DC to a 27-21 lead.
The Lady Chargers took over in the second half, shooting 60.0% (6-10) from beyond the three point line. They finished the game shooting 50.9% from the floor to Felician's 45.5%.
Smith led the way for the Golden Falcons with a game leading 25 points and six rebounds. Janelle Biamonte (Secaucus, NJ) netted 17 points and four rebounds.
Dominican had three players in double figures, led by senior
shooter Kristen Tracey (Bronx, NY) with 16 points
(4-7 from three). Junior Shalissa Burgess (Englewood,
NJ) and sophomore Adele Laskowski (Wayne,
NJ) each netted 12 points, while Althea Chambers
(Yonkers, NY) grabbed a game leading eight rebounds.
With the win, Dominican improves to 13-4 overall and 6-1 in the CACC, while Felician falls to 3-13 overall and 1-8 in the CACC.
DC is back in action on Saturday when they host University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's hoops action. Game time is 1:00pm on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center for the Sue Heller Game.
