BASEBALL DEFEATS BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE DEACONS
Bloomfield, NJ (3/27/09) The visiting Dominican College Chargers baseball squad defeated the Bloomfield College Deacons, 7-4 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball action.
Bloomfield, NJ(3/27/09) The visiting Dominican College Chargers baseball squad defeated the Bloomfield College Deacons, 7-4 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball action.
The Deacons took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, scoring both runs on a home run. The Chargers tied the game in the top of the fourth as sophomore designated hitter Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY) hit a two run homer to plate Tom Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) who led off the inning with a walk.
DC went head 5-2 in the sixth as junior Willie Mann (Patterson, NY) hit a double to score both Munoz and Maloney and later came in to score on the sacrifice fly ball by freshman Armando Alvarez (Miami, FL).
Dominican added a run in the eighth on an RBI single by Alvarez to take a 6-2 lead. BC put two runs on the board in the bottom stanza to cut the deficit to 6-4, but a solo home run by freshman Alexi Colon (Millville, NJ) in the ninth gave DC the eventual 7-4 victory.
Alvarez, Munoz, Mann and sophomore Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) all collected two hits for the Chargers in the win, with Munoz, Mann and Alvarez adding two RBIs a piece.
Sophomore Tom Kahl (Bay Shore, NY) picked up win in eight innings of work, allowing four runs on 11 hits and striking out 11 Deacon batters. Freshman right-hander Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) picked up his seventh save of the season, pitching the ninth inning.
With the win Dominican improves to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the CACC, while Bloomfield falls to 3-15 overall and 0-3 in the CACC.
Dominican wraps up the season series tomorrow as they host Bloomfield College in a double-header slated to begin at 12pm at Veteran's Memorial Park.
