#1 CHARGERS BASESBALL CLOSE OUT CACC REGULAR SEASON WITH SWEEP OVER USP
Orangeburg, NY (5/2/09) The #1 Dominican College baseball team completed a season series sweep of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia this afternoon. DC won the first game, 7-2 and completed the sweep with a 7-4 victory in the night cap.

Dominican scored in the top of the first of game one as designated hitter Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY) had an RBI single through the left side to score Yordis Veras (Jamaica, NY) who had a one out single to right center. The Chargers added three runs in the third as Munoz delivered an RBI single up the middle and junior Willie Mann (Patterson, NY) reached on a fielder's choice that allowed a run to score. An RBI single up the middle by shortstop Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) gave DC a 4-0 lead.
USP tallied two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead in half, but Dominican added two runs in the fifth after taking advantage of a Devil throwing error to allow Mann and right fielder Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) to score which rebuilt a 6-2 lead. An RBI single to right field by Munoz in the sixth lead to Dominican's 7-2 victory.
Shaun Murphy (Malville, NY) improved to 3-1 on the year in eight innings of work, scattering three hits and 10 strikeouts. Freshman Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) came in to pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
In game two, DC once again scored in the first inning on an RBI single through the right side by Munoz. Dominican added three runs in the second as Lopez reached on a USP error to plate a run and an RBI double to right center by freshman Alexi Colon (Millville, NJ) gave DC a 3-0 lead. An RBI groundout by Veras gave Dominican the final run of the inning and a 4-0 lead.
The Devils got a run back in the bottom of the second and added two runs in the fifth to trail by only a run 4-3. Dominican added three insurance runs in the sixth on a two-run double to center by Lopez, followed by an RBI double down the right field line by Colon. USP scored a run in the seventh for the final 7-4 Charger victory.
Charger starter Victor Cosme (Brooklyn, NY) got the win (3-0) in 4 1/3 innings of work, allowing three runs on seven hits and two strikeouts. Sophomore Tom Kahl (Bay Shore, NY) came in to pitch 1 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit and five strikeouts. Freshman Tom Nagy (Greenville, NY) came in for 2/3 of an inning after allowing one run on one hit and Moore picked up his 14th save of the season after getting the final out of the game.
With the sweep Dominican improves to 35-10 overall and 22-5 in the CACC.
