BASEBALL DROPS SEASON OPENING DOUBLE-HEADER
Chester, NY (2/26/11) The Dominican College baseball team opened up the 2011 season with a double-header loss to Franklin Pierce University in games played at The Rock Sports Park in Chester, NY. The Ravens broke a 1-1 tie with a seven run eighth inning to win game one, 8-3, and shutout the Chargers 9-0 in game two.

Chester, NY (2/26/11) The Dominican College baseball team opened up the 2011 season with a double-header loss to Franklin Pierce University in games played at The Rock Sports Park in Chester, NY. The Ravens broke a 1-1 tie with a seven run eighth inning to win game one, 8-3, and shutout the Chargers 9-0 in game two.
In game one, FPU held a 1-0 lead after three innings when DC rallied with a run in the top of the fourth as Michael Levy, Jr (Salisbury Mills, NY) led off the inning with an infield single. A single through the left side off the bat of senior right fielder Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) put runners on first and second. A sacrifice bunt from Marco Moreno (Miami, FL) put runners in scoring position and an RBI ground out to second by left fielder Tony Blake (Windsor, CT) to tie the game at 1-1.
The Ravens bats came alive with seven runs on four hits in the eighth inning to take an 8-1. In the top of the ninth Blake hit a one out single to right field and sophomore first basemen Andrew Camardella (Pelham, NY) hit a two run blast over the left field fence to make the score 8-3.
Junior right-handed pitcher Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) went seven innings, allowing one run on five hits in the no decision. Freshman Richard Leachy (Brookfield, WI) suffered the loss in one inning of work, allowing seven runs (five earned) on four hits.
In the night cap, FPU limited the Chargers to five hits in a 9-0 shutout. The Ravens scored two runs in the second, one in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh and added three more in the eighth inning.
Junior Dave Bartuska (Duryea, PA) went 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on six hits and recording six strikeouts. Dustin Javins (Fort Lauderdale, FL) pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed two hits, while freshman Ryan Calby (Huntington Station, NY) went one inning and allowed a run on one hit.
Rookie Jordan Paszek (Sussex, WI) pitched the eighth inning, allowing three runs on four hits and sophomore Caleb Whiteley (San Antonio, TX) came in to pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
With the loss Dominican falls to 0-2 on the season.
