Chester, NY (3/12/11) The Dominican College baseball team evened their record to 2-2 on the season after winning a non-conference double-header today held at The Rock Sports Park. DC defeated Saint Anselm, 3-1, and edged Merrimack College, 7-6, in the night cap.

Chester, NY (3/12/11) The Dominican College baseball team evened their record to 2-2 on the season after winning a non-conference double-header today held at The Rock Sports Park. DC defeated Saint Anselm, 3-1, and edged Merrimack College, 7-6, in the night cap.
Game one: Senior right fielder Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) led the Chargers offenisvely, going 3-4 in the game with two homeruns, two runs scored, two RBIs.
Robinson's first home run came in the top of the second inning as he led things off with the solo shot over the right centerfield fence to give DC a 1-0 lead. The Hawks came back with a run in the bottom stanza to make the score 1-1.
In the fifth, the Chargers had two runners on and one out, when center fielder Xavier Bonilla (Bronx, NY) hit an RBI single to left field to plate a run and regain a one run lead (2-1).
Robinson struck again in the eighth inning as he blasted another solo homer over the right centerfield fence with two outs to give Dominican a 3-1 lead.
Catcher Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ) also collected three hits in the win.
Junior right-handed pitcher, Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) got the complete game victory (1-0), allowing one run on seven hits and five strikeouts.
Game Two: Merrimack held a 2-0 when the Chargers struck for a run in the bottom of the second as sophomore first basemen Andrew Camardella (Pelham, NY) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and scored on Christopher Gonzalez's (Bronx, NY) double to left field.
DC took a 3-2 lead in the third as Marco Moreno (Miami, FL) plated a run on a fielder's choice and Robinson followed with an RBI single to center field.
Merrimack put two runs on the board in the seventh to regain a 4-3 lead, but the Chargers scored four runs on three hits in the bottom stanza to go ahead 7-4. Michael Levy, Jr (Salisbury Mill, NY) got a lead off walk and Christopher Brown (Tenafly, NJ) singled up the middle to put two on. Camardella delivered a double down the left field line to plate both runners and Gonzalez later followed with a two-run double to left field.
MC added two runs in the top of the eighth for the final 7-6 score.
Freshman Luis Vasquez (Pomona, NY) picked up his first collegiate win (1-0) , allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits in 1 1/3 innings. Greg Gonzalez (Franklin Square, NY) got his first collegiate save (1) in pitching the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit and getting four strikeouts.
Starter Caleb Whiteley (San Antonio, TX) went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and four strikeouts in the no decision.
