CHARGERS BASEBALL SWEEPS PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY

Philadelphia, PA (4/2/11) The Dominican College baseball team improved to 12-7 overall and 6-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after sweeping host, Philadelphia University, 7-5 and 5-3, this afternoon in a CACC double-header held at Alumni Field.

Philadelphia, PA (4/2/11) The Dominican College baseball team improved to 12-7 overall and 6-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after sweeping host, Philadelphia University, 7-5 and 5-3, this afternoon in a CACC double-header held at Alumni Field.

Game One: Dominican took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a solo home run hit by second basemen Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM).  The Rams answered with two runs in the bottom stanza for a 2-1 lead.

Dominican regained a one run lead (3-2) with a two run third inning as Lopez hit an RBI double and senior Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) hit an RBI ground out.  DC added a run in the fifth on the RBI single by Marco Moreno (Miami, FL) to go ahead 4-2.

DC took a 7-2 lead in the sixth as senior catcher Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ) blasted a three run-home run (his first of the season) to bring in Andrew Camardella (Pelham, NY) and Christopher Gonzalez (Bronx, NY). 

Philadelphia added a run in the bottom of the sixth and added two more in the ninth for the 7-5 score.

Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) improved to 3-0 overall after going seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) with three strikeouts.

Game Two:  The Chargers jumped out to an 2-0 lead after a half of inning of play as Lopez hit an RBI double and Robinson  hit an RBI single through the right side.

DC added a run in the third inning as Lopez led off the inning with a solo home run for a 3-0 lead.  Philadelpia got a run back in the bottom stanza to make the score 3-1.

The Chargers scored a run in both the fourth and fifth innings as Xavier Bonilla (Bronx, NY) reached on a fielder's choice which scored a run and Robinson hit an RBI single to left field in the fifth to extend the DC lead to 5-1.  The Rams added two runs in the seventh for the final 5-3 Charger victory.

Right-handed pitcher Dustin Javins (Fort Lauderdale, FL) improved to 3-1 overall in seven innings of work, allowing three runs (two earned) on 11 hits nd four strikeouts.  Richard Leachy (Brookfield, WI) pitched the final two innings.
