BASEBALL REMAINS UNDEFEATED IN CACC WITH SWEEP OVER CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (4/9/11) The Dominican College baseball team improved to 9-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play and to 16-9 overall after sweeping the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College this afternoon in games played at Veteran's Park. DC won game one, 18-11 and took the night cap, 8-6.

Orangeburg, NY (4/9/11) The Dominican College baseball team improved to 9-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play and to 16-9 overall after sweeping the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College this afternoon in games played at Veteran's Park. DC won game one, 18-11 and took the night cap, 8-6.
Game One: The Chargers pounded out 14 hits in game one's 18-11 victory. CHC held a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but DC answered back with four runs in the bottom stanza to take a 4-3 lead. Tony Blake (Windsor, CT) delivered a bases loaded double to center field to bring in three runs and a CHC error later allowed a fourth run to score.
An RBI single to left field by Marco Moreno (Miami, FL) gave Dominican 5-4 lead. An RBI single down the left field line off the bat of senior Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) brought in catcher Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ) who led off the inning with a single to go up 6-4.
DC added two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and nine runs in the seventh to extend their lead to 18-5. A six run top of the ninth by the Griffins made the score 18-11.
Lopez and Blake each collected three hits and three RBIs in the victory, while Blake scored five runs.
Right handed pitcher Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) improved to 4-0 on the season, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and four strikeouts in seven innings. Richard Leachy (Brookfield, WI) came in to pitch the eighth and Greg Gonzalez (Franklin Square, NY) pitched the ninth.
Game Two: Dominican scored two runs in the bottom of the first as senior Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) belted a two-run homer over the right field fence. An RBI ground out in the third by Lopez made the score 3-1.
A four-run fourth inning extended the lead to 6-1 as Lopez hit a tree-run single down the left field line.
A solo blast in the fifth inning gave the Chargers an 7-1 lead and an RBI double to center field off the bat of Blake put DC up 8-2 after eight innings. The Griffins put four runs on the board in the top of the ninth for the final 8-6 score.
Junior David Bartuska (Duryea, PA) went eight innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and eight strikeouts to improve to 4-2 on the season. Dustin Javins (Fort Lauderdale, FL) came in to pitch the ninth.
