BASEBALL WINS TWO OVER UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES
Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/21/14) The Dominican College baseball team improved to 16-17 overall and 10-7 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after defeating the visiting Devils from the University of the Sciences, 6-5 and 8-0 this afternoon in games played at Veteran's Memorial Field.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/21/14) The Dominican College baseball team improved to 16-17 overall and 10-7 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after defeating the visiting Devils from the University of the Sciences, 6-5 and 8-0 this afternoon in games played at Veteran's Memorial Field.
Game One: Dominican scored three runs in their half of the third inning to go up 3-0. Alex Lorenzo (Miami Beach, Fla.) scored on a passed ball and Tyler Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) and Carlos Lopez (Miami, Fla.) later followed with back-to-back two-out RBI doubles.
Dominican added to the lead in the fifth stanza as Lopez hit his second run-scoring double of the contest to increase the lead to 4-1.
In the seventh, Dominican scored two more runs one on a fielding error and the other on Lopez's third double of the game to bring home Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.) to make the score 6-1.
The Devils scored three runs in the eighth and added one in the ninth for the final 6-5 score.
Lopez and Lorenzo had three hits each in the win with Lopez having a team leading three RBIs.
Starter Peter Martinez (White Plains, N.Y.) got the win (4-2) in 7 2/3 innings pitched, allowing four runs on five hits. Andrew Morano (Clintondale, N.Y.) got his first save of the season in 1 1/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit.
Game Two: Dominican scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning as CACC Co-Rookie of the Week, Jonathan Martinez (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field to bring home a run and Alonso hit an RBI ground out to give the Chargers the 2-0 advantage.
The Chargers added two more runs in the fifth as Alonso singled home Jayson Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Clark later reached on a Devil error and scored Martinez to give DC the 4-0 lead.
In the sixth an RBI single to right field off the bat of Gray extended the DC lead to 5-0. In the seventh an RBI triple from Clark made the score 6-0 and freshman Gabriel Valverde (Plantation, Fla.) had an RBI single to give Dominican the 7-0 lead.
An additional run in the eighth that scored after a throw on a steal gave DC the final 8-0 victory.
Gray collected three hits in the win.
Anthony Pastrana (Queens, N.Y.) improved to 2-3 with the win, pitching 7 2/3 innings and allowing just five hits and striking out 13 batters.
Jesse McIllwaine (Huntington, N.Y.) came in for the final 1 1/3 innings.
