CHARGERS EARN NON-CONFERENCE SPLIT WITH MOLLOY COLLEGE TO OPEN THE SEASON

Uniondale, N.Y. (3/13/21) The Dominican College baseball team opened the 2021 season with a split with non-conference opponent Molloy College.
The Chargers are now 1-1 on the season and the Lions are now 2-3.
Game One: The Lions took the opener of the doubleheader by a score of 9-3. DC struck first in the third inning and the Lions tied the game in the bottom of the third inning.
The Lions took the lead in the fourth inning and stayed ahead for the remainder of the game.
The Lions added runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to extend their lead. DC added two runs in the ninth inning, but Molloy secured the 9-3 win.
Timothy Panetta started the game for Molloy and earned the win to improve to 2-0. Panetta recorded eight strikeouts over seven innings.
William Espinal took the mound for DC and pitched six innings and earned seven strikeouts.
The Lions recorded 13 hits in the win. Patrick Hoffman, Thomas Brady, Matt Overton, Sean Hogan, and Peter Theodorellis each finished with a multi-hit game.
Chris Peralta and Sean Hogan each recorded two RBI. James Messina, Jake McCarthy, Matt Overton, and Thomas Brady all drove in one run.
Richard Paulino and Arthur Quinones each recorded a two-hit game for DC. Derek Langfelder drove in the first run for the Chargers. Ryan Ruziecki added a two-run double in the ninth inning.
Game Two: The Chargers bounced back in game two with a 14-2 win. DC recorded 20 hits. Brian Sanders went 4 for 4 with three RBI and four runs scored. Joshua Colon and Richard Paulino each added four hits. Colon drove in a team-high five RBI. Paulino added two RBI. Tyler Patterson added two hits and two RBI.
Jaden Diaz-Lambert earned the win for DC with five innings pitched and recorded four strikeouts.
Both teams scored two runs each in the first inning. DC added five runs in the second inning to retake the lead. The Chargers extended the lead in the fourth inning, fifth inning, and seventh inning.
Eric Sandusky entered the game in relief and pitched two innings and recorded five strikeouts.
The Chargers will be back in action on Thursday, March 18th when they travel to Mercy College at 3:00 PM
