GIANNETTI NAMED CACC COACH OF THE YEAR; EIGHT PLAYERS EARN ALL-CACC RECOGNITION
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 7, 2025) – Dominican University New York head coach, Rick Giannetti, has been named the 2025 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Coach of the Year as was announced today by CACC Commissioner Dan Mara. Thomas Jefferson University graduate shortstop Javon Hernandez has been voted the 2025 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball Player of the Year. Sophomore right-hander Max Weber of Felician University was selected the 2025 CACC Pitcher of the Year. Hernandez and Weber, who were also both named to the All-CACC First Team, headline the all-conference teams and major award winners. The voting was conducted by the conference's 13 head coaches.
Jefferson freshman first baseman Thomas Matuszewski was chosen as the 2025 CACC Baseball Rookie of the Year and to the All-CACC First Team, while Bloomfield College will receive the Baseball Team Sportsmanship Award.
Hernandez, from Danbury, Conn., is batting .431 across 50 games with 18 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 71 runs scored, and 61 runs batted in. He has stolen 34 bases in 35 attempts, and has drawn 31 walks with 11 hit batsmen. Hernandez leads the CACC in home runs and slugging percentage (.766), and is tied with Matuszewski for the top spot with 81 hits. Hernandez and the Rams are ranked No. 20 in the most recent national Division II media poll and No. 21 in the coaches version.
Weber, of Hicksville, N.Y., leads the CACC in all three "pitching triple crown" categories. In 12 appearances (11 starts), he has a 9-1 record, a 2.92 earned run average, and 81 strikeouts. In 61 2/3 innings he has allowed 48 hits, 23 walks, and 12 hit batters, and opponents are hitting .210 off him. Weber helped the Golden Falcons to a share of the CACC North Division regular-season title and is the probable starter for Felician's CACC playoff game against Jefferson on Thursday.
Matuszewski has put together one of the top seasons by a CACC rookie in recent memory. The Oxford, Pa., resident, is batting a conference-best .453 with a .541 on-base percentage. In 48 games he has collected 23 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 61 runs, 73 RBI and 11 steals, with the doubles and RBI totals also league highs. The Rams won the CACC South regular-season crown and begin play on Thursday in the four-team double-elimination segment of the CACC Championship tournament.
Giannetti, selected by the league's directors of athletics communications, is the CACC Coach of the Year for a record 10th occasion and for the first time since 2009. He has guided the Chargers (37-15, 28-8 CACC) to an overall 21-victory improvement over last season, the CACC North regular-season co-championship, and a regional ranking heading into this weekend's conference tournament.
Bloomfield, led by head coach J.J. Brock, was the coaches' choice for demonstrating class and character throughout the regular season.
Dominican had five players named to the All-CACC First Team as Ty Gilligan earned the honor at catcher, Erick Diaz and Jaden Maia at the outfield position, starting pitcher Anthony Leak and designated player Kevin Hirsch.
All-CACC Second Team honors went to second basemen Ryan Bongiorno, shortstop David Knepper and starting pitcher Luis Rivera.
