Pomona, N.Y. (3/11/26) The Dominican University New York baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University in games played today at the newly renovated Clover Stadium. The Chargers rallied from a 7-0 deficit to defeat the Tigers, 11-8, but fell in the nightcap, 9-6.
With the split, the Chargers now stand at 5-8 overall and 1-1 in the CACC.
Game One: The Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings of play, but shortstop Fraelyn Rosario hit a two-run homer to left field to get DUNY on the board. The team added two more runs in the fourth to cut the deficit to 7-4.
First basemen Chad Falcon brought the Chargers within a run with a two-run blast over the right field fence and later catcher AJ Giannetti scored on a wildpitch to tie the game at 7-7. A sacrifice fly from Erick Diaz gave Dominican their first lead of the game, 8-7.
HFU scored a run in the seventh to re-tie the score 8-8, but Dominican regained the lead with a three-run eighth inning as two runs scored on a throwing error and Jaden Maia hit a sacrifice fly ball for the eventual 11-8 victory.
Five different Chargers had two hits in the win, with Rosario having two RBIs.
Reliever Miguelangel Francisco picked up the win, while Robert Liriano earned the save.
Game Two: Holy Family again took an early lead, scoring runs in the first three innings for the 5-0 lead. Dominican scored three runs in the third on a Falcon double to right field and a two-run single through the left side off the bat of designated hitter Kevin Hirsch.
The Tigers countered with three runs in the top of the fourth and DUNY got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on the sacrfice fly from Diaz. HFU tacked on a run in the fifth frame, while the Chargers added two more runs in their half of the inning on a wild pitch and an RBI groundout by Juan Peralta.
Dominican scored the final run of the game in the seventh on a solo home run off the bat of Hirsch for the final 9-6 loss.
Hirsch went 3-4 in the game with three RBIs.
Starter Samuel Herrera took the loss.
Dominica returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to conference opponent, Chestnut Hill College.
